How to Change Default Programs to Open File Type in Mac OS X

Sometime when we click on a file and it will open with wrong application or not application that we prefer. Can we change it in Mac OS X? The answer is yes.

In Mac OS X, we can easily change the default program Changing the default programs for a file type in Mac OS X Leopard. How to do that?

To change the default application associated with a specific file type follow these steps.

  • Select a file that you want to change the default program,, either go to “File” and “Get Info” in the Finder menu bar or use the hot key (? I).

  • Under the “Open With” section, select the application you’d like to use from the drop down list.

  • (If the application is not listed then select Other from the drop down list. A window will appear asking you to select the application.)

Select the Application you want to use and tick Always Open With. After that, click on Add button

Click Change All button if you want to open all file of the current type with the selected application.

A popup will appear asking “Are you sure you want to change all similar documents to open with…”. Click Continue to approve the change.
