How to password protect your mac
July 29, 2009 · Posted in Mac OS X
Your computer contains a lot of documents, pictures, email messages, and other personal information that should be protected and kept away from prying eyes. Password protecting your Mac will help to give you control of who is using your computer and for what. How to do that, here are the steps:
- Goto System Preferences
- Then click on the Security tab.
- Check the Disable automatic login check box.
- Go back to the main System Preferences window and click on the accounts icon.
- Click on the Login Options part of the accounts. Make sure the “Automatically log in as” check box is unchecked. Under Display login window as, select either List of users or the Name and password. The List of users option will provide a list of users when you first start up your Mac.
- Click on your user name and type your password to login. The Name and password option is there for extra security which will require you to type in both your user name and password. I recommend that you do this.
-Close the System Preferences box and restart your mac. When it boots up, you will be required to enter your user name and password.
