Fail to transfer file more than 4GB into External Hard disk

One of my user complained about her External Hard disk problem. She unable to backup her Ms Outlook email to her external hard disk. She got the following error message :-

Cannot copy outlook.pst: There is not enough free disk space.

Delete one or more files to free disk space, and then try again.

To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click Disk Cleanup.

I tried to help her check on her External Hard disk, i found that her Hard disk still have 350GB free space. Her Outlook.pst file size only 5GB. I tried to check on her External Hard disk again, i found that her External Hard disk has been formatted in FAT32 format.

These problem happened because of the Hard disk formatted into FAT32 format. FAT32 only supports a max file size of 4 GB’s. It is an old, less stable file system. It really shouldn’t be used at all these days.

To solve this issue, the only way can do is to format the Hard disk into NTFS format. NTFS able to support file size more than 4GB.

Hope this post will solve your headeach. :-)
