How to determine My Computer Processor able to support 64-bit Windows 7 or not?

Windows 7 available in 32- or 64-bit version. You have to make a decision to go for 32-bit or 64-bit before you upgrade from XP or Vista to Windows 7 and I recommend you going for 64-bit. The 64-bit systems handle data and memory more efficiently than 32-bit systems.

To find out which version your computer is using, just follow the following steps:

  1. Go to Start button Picture of the Start button, click Computer and click the System Properties at the top of the window.
  2. In the System area of the box that appears, look next to System Type to see if the computer is running a 32- or 64-bit operating system.

If you have installed Windows 7 32-bit version and you want to see if your computer’s processor can run the 64-bit version of Windows 7, just follow the following steps:

  1. Go to Start button Picture of the Start button, click the Control Panel
  2. In the Search box at the top of the window, just type Performance Information and Tools
  3. Click on Performance Information and Tools link to link to the Performance Information and Tools box.
  4. Once Performance Information and Tools box appear, click on the option for “View and print detailed performance and system information.”
  5. In the System area, look next to 64-bit capable to see if it says “Yes” which means the processor can handle the upgrade.
