How-To: Connect HUAWEI E220 Modem with Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

I just got my Snow Leopard MacBook. But i had some problems getting my Huawei E220 3G USB modem running under Snow Leopard. I tried to find updated drive to make my Huawei E220 3G USB modem work under Snow Leopard.

Below are the steps to get the modem working:

  • Download the latest MobileConnectDriver Mac package from Huawei
  • Unzip MobileConnectDriver(4.16.00.00).zip and install it
  • Plug the modem into your Mac’s USB port and wait until the modem stops flashing green.
  • Open System preferences and the Network pane. Select the HUAWEI Mobile Modem interface in the list and
  • Now setup your service by entering a telephone number. My case is i using Celcom Broadband, so i enter telephone number as *99***1# and enter the Account Name and Password (my case, i enter celcom as username and the password provided by celcom).
  • Then click the Advanced button. Set Model to GRPS GSM/3G and enter your APN for your provider (for celcom, use celcom3g) and leave CID as 1.
  • Click Apply and then click the Connect button back on the Network Preferences window, and you should connect as below:

My E220 is giving me hell If i plug it into the PC it works fin. On my mac the above looks nothing like that . And it keeps cutting off. Light goes dark blue then green then back on then green then back on again or off. Celcom are pissed off with me I think. but they sold me the thing.
