I’ve had an issue with my Mac OS X Snow Leopard machine. My Snow Leopard hang on login screen. The login window displays normally, but keyboard and mouse input seem to be ignored. I only able to move the mouse cursor but i cannot click anything even the shutdown button. This condition persists for around 5 minutes at which time everything goes back to normal.
To troubleshoot this issue, first thing i will do is to perform the hardware test. So, I force shutdown my Mac Machine by press on power button. After that, i put in the Snow Leopard Install DVD and press option button to boot up from the Snow Leopard Install DVD.
Another problem occur when i boot up from the Snow Leopard Install DVD, it show Kernel Panic

Please take note that after resetting NVRAM or PRAM you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, time zone information.
After the problem solved by resetting PRAM and NVRAM, i recommend you repair your Disk Permission as a basic maintenance for your Mac.
It is because your Mac Systems files permissions can be modified from their default values for a number of reasons. It is good practice to periodically “Repair Permissions“, which sets the permissions back to their default values. This keeps Mac OS X running smoothly and often both solves and prevents a wide variety of problems.
