I got complaint from my user about their Thunderbird email client spell check function. According to them, the spell check function stop working. I tried to do misspelled two word in this email client to demonstrate the problem. I found that the email client fail to detect the wrong spelling.

To perform troubleshooting on this problem, i try to check on Thunderbird Options setting by using bellow steps .

Select Tools | Options… or Edit | Preferences… from the menu.

Go to the Composition category.

From the pop-up dialogue shows an empty grey box for “Language” which means that Dictionaries & Language Packs installed on that computer. To solve the spell check issue, just need to manually install Dictionaries & Language Packs.

Below are the steps:-

Select Tools | Options… or Thunderbird | Preferences… (Mac) from the menu in Mozilla Thunderbird.

Open the Composition category.

Go to the Spelling tab.

Click Download More Dictionaries.

Follow the Download Dictionary link for the desired dictionary. In this case, i will download English Language Pack.

Click Add to Thunderbird.

Wait for the download to finish; even if nothing seems to be happening, chances are a dialog will eventually appear.

Click Install Now under Install add-ons only from authors whom you trust..

Now click Restart Now.

After i google it, i got the answer from google said that this error may occur even when Outlook Express is not in use on Windows XP, because Outlook Express is indexed by Windows Search. We can open Windows Indexing options and uncheck Outlook Express by the steps below:

Click Start – Control Panel, and switch to classic view.

Click Indexing Options

then click the Modify button.

Uncheck the checkbox before: Microsoft Outlook Express.

Click OK, and then click Close to save the settings.

If this problem persists, you can try to reset the compact count to 0 inside the system registry. To do that, just follow below steps:

Start the registry editor by click Start -> Run and type regedit

Open following registry key :-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{identity}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0

Note: identity is a string of letters, numbers, and dashes.

Last week, i got the complain from my user about her Apple Mail problem. According to her, she can receive new message from mail server but cannot send mail because the Send button on a new message is greyed out and does not respond.

So, i just help her to test her apple mail settings via Connection Doctor. The Connection Doctor can successfully log into the SMTP server.

I just proceed to check the settings of mail to make sure the settings for the mail server are correct. I Choose Preferences from the Mail menu and Click Accounts in the Preferences window. On the Account Preferences, i found that do not have a SMTP selected for that account.

To solve this problem, i just reselect the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and tick the option Use only this server. After that, i create an email and click the Send Button to send out. It is working fine now.

Next time, if you facing the same problem again, please ensure that the “Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)” pop-up menu is not set to “None”. If it is, select your server from the “Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)” pop-up menu if it appears.

When doing the migration, i facing some problem in migrate my user email and email setting to the new computer. Here i going to show your how to migrate your mail box and email account setting to new installation computer

Question 1: Where are your e-mail messages saved? How to backup and restore it?

By default, all your Microsoft Outlook data file keep in :

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

You will see the Personal Folder file (.pst) in this location (C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder). This is the PST file that contains all of your current email, contacts, and calendar. Just copy the file and place it in exactly the same folder in the new machine. Then all your addresses and and emails should be in the correct place.

Note This location (C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder) is a hidden folder. To navigate to this folder, you must first turn on the display of hidden folders.

Question 2: How to migrate my Outlook Account setting to my new computer?

After you restore your email message, just start the Microsoft Outlook. When you first start Outlook, you are asked for your e-mail account information to create new data file known in Outlook as a Personal Folders file (.pst). Actually we can migrate the Microsoft Outlook setting from registry and import in to new computer.

Below are the few simple steps to show how to backup and restore Microsoft Outlook email setting :-

Start > Run > type ‘regedit’

Locate the following path in your ‘Registry Editor’

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook

Right click on the key outlook

select option: Export and save .reg files to your desired location.

To restore your Microsoft Outlook email setting, just run the Registry file that your save on your new computer. Your old outlook profile with all your email accounts setting and rules will be restore on your new computer.
