Troubleshoot your Mac Hardware problem with Apple Hardware Test

If you suspect your Mac machine might have a hardware failure, you can use the bundled Apple Hardware Test that came with your Mac to do a diagnostics.

Apple Hardware Test is a diagnostic tool for detecting issues with your computer’s internal hardware components such as the logic board, memory, modem, video RAM, and Apple’s AirPort card. It does not check externally connected hardware components such as USB drives or Firewire devices; it does not check non-Apple devices such as PCI cards from other vendors.

Apple Hardware Test does not check your computer for issues with the Operating System (OS) or other software related issues such as application or extension conflicts. (more…)

Mac OS X Start up problem: stuck on the grey screen (with the apple and spinning progress indicator)

My Leopard MacBook having start up problem. Its stuck at the grey start-up screen with the apple logo and the progress indicator. I tried held the power button to force a shutdown and restart it. But it still stuck at the apple logo.

Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4: Disk Utility shows a “No Valid Packages” alert

I discover a problem when i run Disk Utility to repair file permission on my Mac OS X 10.4,the Disk Utility cannot verity or repair permission at all. There is alert message appears as show as below :-
