How to Use the Print Screen Function on a Mac

If you newbie in Mac OS X, you may not be familiar with the commands as it is totally different from Windows. I’m sure the most common question you will ask is how to do print screen on Mac. You will realize that Print Screen button is not available on your Mac Machine.

There are few way to do print screen on Mac OS X, just follow below steps to do it:-

How To Do Print Screen In Mac OS X

A) Command key + Shift + 3

  • Hold down Command key  + Shift + 3 simultaneously to get takes a screenshot of the full screen
  • If your audio is turn on, you will hear a click similar to that of a camera.
  • You will then find a picture on your desktop entitled “Picture N” ,n being the first unused number.

B) Command key  + Shift + 4

  • To capture a portion of the desktop screen, just hold down Command key  + Shift + 4
  • A cross-hair cursor will appear and now you can click and drag to capture the selected area .
  • Once you release the mouse button, the selected screen shot will be saved as a picture file on your desktop.

C) Command key  + Shift + 4, then spacebar, then click a window

  • To capture a specific application window, just press Command + Shift + 4 (Apple key  + Shift + 4)
  • The mouse cursor will change to symbol + . Then press the Spacebar and a camera icon will appear.
  • Move the cursor over the window where you want to capture, click the mouse button and the screen shot will be saved as a PNG file on your desktop.
